Tom joined the U's from near neighbours Ipswich Town on a free transfer in May 2011 and went on to enjoy a fantastic first season.
The switch to the U's was to prove to be a great decision by the young centre half, who romped home to win the Young Player of the Year award with some outstanding performances at the back.
The 2013/14 season saw him continue his progress, winning the Player of the Year title as he became a mainstay in the U’s defence, and after winning the Player of the Year title for the second season running after an ever present campaign in 2014/15, he became the first U’s outfield player to win it three times when he again collected the award at the end of 2017/18, and picked it up for a fourth time in 2019/20.
He has now played over 300 games for Colchester United at the heart of the defence and is climbing his way up the list for all time appearances for the U's.
