The New Zealand international signed a two year contact in the summer of 2020.
Having made his name as a central defender at Ipswich Town, with a loan spell at the U’s in 2011. Made over 200 appearances for the Tractor Boys before leaving for the MLS in 2018.
He made sixty appearances for Colorado Rapids before returning to England to sign for Sunderland in February 2020 until the end of the season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he didn’t make an appearance before his release in the summer of 2020.
Having lived in New Zealand during his younger years, he holds dual nationality and plumps for the Kiwis, playing in the World Cup in 2010, and became their youngest captain in 2013.
Signing a new contract with the U's in 2021, Tommy was named captain of the side ahead of the 2021/22 season.
