Tom Smith returned to the club following a successful loan spell at the end of the 2022/23 season.
A young goalkeeper, Tom came through the ranks with Arsenal before being released by the Gunners in the summer of 2023.
Prior to that, Smith had spent time on loan at National League side Bromley before his first move to Colchester - a move that proved to be successful, keeping three clean sheets in his first three matches.
