Colchester United

Alex Newby joined the club on an initial two-year deal after being released by Rochdale earlier in the summer of 2022.

Hailing from the North West, Newby's career began at his hometown club with Barrow, after a spell in Bolton Wanderers' youth set up. 

Barrow were non-league at the time, with Alex also having time at fellow non-league Chorley before getting his first Football League move to Rochdale in 2020.

The tricky midfielder played forty-three games in his first year at Spotland with the club in League One, and continued his consistency in the fourth tier with another thirty-nine appearances for Rochdale in League Two during the 2021/22 season. 

Newby bagged thirteen goals in eighty-two games across all competitions for Rochdale before his move to Colchester United.
