Matt Jay signed a two-and-a-half-year deal from Exeter City, leaving the club for the first time in his career.
Jay spent ten seasons as a professional player at Exeter, and aside from a sprinkle of loan that’s where he’s been for his whole career. He’s actually been at Exeter for eighteen years, as he joined as a youth player. He made 206 appearances for Exeter and was their club captain before making the move to North Essex.
He’s had three loan spells at Weston-super-Mare, Hayes and Yeading United and Truro City. He scored a goal that secured Exeter City’s promotion in the 2021/22 season and is seen as a legend of the club.
