U's Head West

In-form Forest Green next

1 April 2018

Colchester United head west to take on Forest Green on Easter Monday, looking to complete a good four days for the club.

The U's have seven points from their last nine and travel to take on a Forest Green side who themselves have enjoyed some good form of late.

Our hosts have won their last five home games to lift themselves away from trouble at the foot of League Two, and they know a couple more results should see them safe.

The U's retain some hope of closing in on the top seven and know that a third successive win will play its part in that quest.

John McGreal's men will wait on the fitness of Tom Lapslie, whose day finished prematurely on Friday with a tweaked hamstring.

U's Fly Out Of The Blocks In Rovers Win

McGreal's men complete perfect Easter

2 April 2018

Colchester United came flying out of the blocks at Forest Green to pick up another win and complete a perfect Easter period.

In both halves, the U's scored within a couple of minutes and Drey Wright scored the fastest goal in League Two this season to set the tone for a positive afternoon ahead for John McGreal's side.

He opened the scoring after a reported 16 seconds at The New Lawn and the U's scored after 89 seconds of the second half through Ben Stevenson to pick up a win to move them to within four points of the play-offs ahead of next Saturday's game v Accrington.

Following Wright's early opener, the U's went on to enjoy the better of the first half an hour, with Szmodics lashing just over from a good move, before Mandron also bent one just wide of the upright.

Rovers were having chances of their own, though, and Campbell almost converted from a Reid flick on as they sought the equaliser.

They did draw level eight minutes before the break and, for the second game running, the U's conceded from the spot. Eastman fouled Hollis and the dangerous Reid made no mistake.

Whilst that would have changed the half time team talks slightly, the U's did get their noses back in front shortly after the restart.

A clever ball forward sent Mandron away and he checked back to lay it into Stevenson who moved towards goal before striking home a fine effort for 2-1.

The U's assuredly held Rovers at bay for the next twenty minutes, before Mandron had a shot blocked and Wright had one cleared off the line as they sought the decisive third.

The home side started to go longer in the quest for an equaliser and had a goal disallowed for a shove on Prosser thirteen minutes from time.

The U's repelled anything that came into the box, but also had to see off a series of free kicks won by the home side in dangerous areas.

The most dangerous of those came deep into injury time, but Walker fended it away to ensure another important win.
