Colchester United recorded a resounding victory over Ipswich Town on Monday afternoon.

Decarrey Sheriff opened the scoring in the first half, and despite both teams having chances, the score remained at 1-0 when the half time whistle went.

Ipswich equalised four minutes into the second half, but no-one could have predicted how the U’s would take the game away from Town with four goals in thirteen minutes after the hour mark.

Sheriff made it two and then three, before Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe got two of his own.

McLoughlin scored a late consolation for Town, but there was no way they could recover from that four goal burst from the U's.

Brennan Dickenson was in the U’s starting eleven, looking for forty five minutes as he continues his recovery from a long term knee injury.

It was the visitors that had the first meaningful threat, with Drinan hitting the U’s bar after fifteen minutes.

Six minutes later, at the other end, Wright in the Town goal had to be off his line sharply to save from Ogedi-Uzokwe.

The U’s only had to wait a few minutes more for the opener though, Decarrey Sheriff scoring from the spot after he himself was fouled inside the box.

After an extended period without too much goalmouth action, Cole Kpekawa’s header was cleared off the line, before Sheriff’s volleyed rebound flew over the crossbar.

That attack came just before the half time whistle, with the hosts leading 1-0 as the teams went into their respective changing rooms for the break.

Dickenson had got through his first half without any problems, and was replaced at half time by Charley Edge.

Less than five minutes into the second half, the visitors were level, as Folami twisted and turned in the box before shooting past Kurasik in the U’s goal.

The goal didn’t throw the U’s out of their stride though – in fact, it had the opposite effect and they went all out to regain the lead.

And they did it in style, scoring four times in the space of thirteen minutes from the hour mark.

First, they were patient around the box before Sheriff buried his effort into the bottom corner, and then he completed his hat-trick with a rebound after Issa’s shot was saved.

Three became four for the U’s on sixty nine minutes, when Town failed to clear a free-kick and Ogedi-Uzokwe was on hand to lift the ball high into the net.  

Ogedi-Uzokwe then produced a moment of magic to make it five, as he flicked the ball up for himself and executed a perfect overhead kick that gave Wright no chance.

Edge was having a real influence as the game came to an end, and was denied twice - once by a great save and then by an offside flag as he put the ball into the net.

McLoughlin scored a consolation goal for Ipswich in the ninetieth minute, making it 5-2, but that didn’t take too much gloss off what was a stunning second half performance from the U’s.
