Players Visit Soccer Camp

23 August 2012

Kids meet the U's again.

John Ward and 17 players from the Colchester United first team squad made an appearance at Shrub End for Colchester United Community Sports Trust’s annual soccer camp on Thursday.

The squad spent an hour at the camp, speaking to the children and staff, being photographed, answering the children’s questions and signing autographs.

92 children aged between 4-15 years old attended the camp and were thrilled to see the U’s stars up close and personal, get their autographs and be given a chance to ask them questions.

The soccer camps are a five day coaching course which incorporates competitions, challenges and Euro 2012-style matches.  There is also a separate section for goalkeeper coaching.

All children receive a free football and Soccer Camp t-shirt for attending and of course get a chance to meet the players.
"There are many U’s fans that attend our sessions and for them to get a chance to see the players in person means so much to them.”

Ryan Hull, CUCST coach said: “The Colchester United Players turning up made the soccer camp experience for the children a very special one.

U's boss John Ward was keen to get the players along once again and was there himself to watch the players in action with the local kids.

And he commented: “For us to spend time with the kids is crucial for them and it’s also good for the players.  It’s good for us to remember our football roots and it is part and parcel of our roles in the local community.”

Captain Kem Izzet added: “It’s nice for us to give a bit back to the children, put a smile on their faces and it’s no trouble for us whatsoever to be involved in these activities.”

Local boy John White added:  “It’s nice for us to see the local facilities, treatment and coaching that the local children get in the community.  The support that CUCST and local clubs give to these young people is vital for their development.”
