U21s Clash Postponed

3 December 2012

Izzet comeback denied again

Experienced U's midfielder Kem Izzet will have to wait for a return to action, with the latest U21s match at the Weston Homes Community Stadium having been postponed.

Heavy rainfall over the weekend resulted in the referee calling off the game against Charlton Athletic, with areas of the pitch preventing a true roll of the ball.

Kem was originally due to return to action in last week's Essex Senior Cup game against Brentwood, but his hopes of some competitive football were quashed as that game was also called off.

Boss Joe Dunne said: "I am very disappointed, because we gave it the best possible chance.

"We have been on pitch on both occasions and although there are wet areas, I am a bit disappointed the game is off because I think if it had been a Saturday game, it may still have been on."

"At the time the pitch was wet but, with six hours of dry weather and work by groundsman, we thought we would be OK.

The referee who came in this afternoon was very sensible about it.

Also due back in U's colours was Tom Aldred, who is back at the Weston Homes Community Stadium after a three month loan spell with Barrow that saw him play fifteen times for the non-leaguers.

He has been out of action since late September so will be easing himself in after over two months on the sidelines.
