2011/12 Special Inductee

12 July 2012

Legendary manager Roy's achievements recognised.

Legendary Colchester United manager Roy McDonough has become the latest name to be inducted into the U's Hall of Fame.

Roy was added into the Hall of Fame at the Boys of 1992 Reunion Dinner, held at the Weston Homes Community Stadium some twenty years after that memorable season.

An emotional Roy accepted the award to some acclaim from the 200 strong crowd in the room, as his achievements in the 1992 season and during his U's career were acknowledged.

Having initially started with the U's in the 1980s, Roy returned to Layer Road to lift the team back into the Football League at the second attempt.

His prolific goalscoring and unique style of man management ensured a double winning campaign and the club's first ever visit to Wembley.

Roy becomes the second manager - and the first player-manager - to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, following Dick Graham's inclusion alongside his team that beat Leeds United in 1971.
