Drey Wright latest youngster to sign
Drey Wright has become the latest U's youth product to sign pro.
The exciting youngster was only halfway through his youth apprenticeship but has been elevated to the pro ranks early by boss John Ward.
He is the sixth of last season's youth team to be given a professional contract, including Alex Gilbey who also signed a year early.
Drey was offered the deal just after his seventeenth birthday and admitted beign a bit surprised.
He told cu-fc.com: "It was very pleasing to be offered a deal and it also came as a bit of a shock because I was expecting to have to do my second year as a scholar."
Rather than working with the youth team this week, Drey joined the first team squad pre-season training, having put pen to paper on his new deal.
And he was understandably looking to spend all his time amongst the senior players in the months ahead.
"It's all I want to do now, work with the first team lads and develop my game. I don't really want to be dropping back into the youth team."
