Duo Shortlisted For Awards

14 November 2012

Boss Joe and midfielder Craig shortlisted.

With three months completed the season is taking shape and with October now over, it is time to reward the month’s standout performers, both in the dugout and on the pitch.

Football League sponsors npower are proud to reveal the nominations for both the npower League 1 Manager and Player of the Month Awards for October.

And U's duo Joe Dunne and Craig Eastmond have both been shortlisted for October's accolades.

The winners will be announced on Friday 16th November 2012, with the final decision being made by two separate Football League judging panels.

The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and npower Sponsorship Manager Emma Collins.

The Player of the Month panel sees Emma Collins joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.

The nominations for the npower League 1 Manager of the Month Award for October are:-

Paul Dickov (Oldham Athletic)
After a difficult couple of months for The Latics, Paul Dickov’s side found some form in October, clocking up 11 points from a possible 18 and moving clear of the relegation zone.

Joe Dunne (Colchester United)
With four wins, a draw and a solitary loss from their six npower League 1 fixtures, Joe Dunne’s Colchester United outfit had a solid October. Finishing the month in 12th place and just five points off the Play-Offs, The U’s fans will now be feeling much more enthusiastic about their prospects.

Danny Wilson (Sheffield United)
With 16 points from a possible 18, Danny Wilson guided Sheffield United to second place in npower League 1 at the end of October. With only goal difference separating The Blades and league leaders Tranmere Rovers at the end of the month, the fans at Bramall Lane will be forgiven for beginning to anticipate a promotion party come April.

The nominations for the npower League 1 Player of the Month Award for October are:-

Jose Baxter (Oldham Athletic) – striker
Having signed a short-term contract until January with Oldham, the 20-year-old former Everton prodigy is proving a class act in npower League 1. The youngster scored four goals in October, including one terrific strike against Leyton Orient.

Craig Eastmond (Colchester United) - midfielder
The Arsenal loanee has brought defensive stability as a midfield anchor for the U’s, breaking up play and helping to assure four clean sheets in six October games. Although primarily operating in that pivot role, he has also given tempo to the attack and scored against Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town.
George Long (Sheffield United) – goalkeeper
In the month before his 19th birthday, the teenager has displayed assurance beyond his years in conceding just a single goal in five league appearances. His shot-stopping ability has only been matched by a calm authority as the last line of The Blades defence.
