Minute's Applause For Peter

5 November 2012

U's to remember club legend.

U's boss Joe Dunne said: "I was desperately upset to have heard the news and we have lost a true legend of the club.

A minute's applause will be held at the match, with members of Peter's family in attendance at the midweek fixture.

Peter passed away after a long battle with illness two weeks ago and his contribution to the club will be acknowledged in our first home game since then, against the Magpies.

U's legend Peter Wright will be remembered by the club and its supporters at Tuesday night's game against Notts County.

"This is a man whose presence around the club was immense. I had the chance, just before taking the job, to speak to him in hospital and he was a man of real stature and if we had people of his stature playing week in, week out for us, we’d be well up the league.

"Peter loved the club and he told it how it was, even if he didn't like it, and I have a lot of time for people who are honest like that. He was a true hero and he epitomises his generation.

"We all talk about the olden days and the players of that time, but they were a tough group and his family should be very proud.

"I am proud to have known him and I feel that, in the position I’m in now, I need to set an example in the community just like he had for many years.

"I want to pass on my condolences to his family and to the footballing community. The town of Colchester has lost a very important man and it’s a very sad time for all concerned."
There will be a book of condolences available for people to sign in the community cafe adjacent to main reception ahead of Tuesday night's game.

Peter's funeral took place with hundreds of people attending St Peter's Church in Colchester on Monday afternoon.
