Players Make Hospice Visit

29 November 2012

Brian and Matt make special trip.

On a very cold and damp November evening, St Helena Hospice was pleased to welcome Colchester United players Matt Heath and Brian Wilson to their Inpatient Unit at Myland Hall, Highwoods.

Matt and Brian took some time out after training on Tuesday to come along and show their support for the Hospice and to entertain patients and their families with their football knowledge and stories.

The surprise visit saw the players presenting one of the current inpatients with a signed Colchester United ball and goody bags for their three young sons on behalf of the club.

Morag Kirkpatrick, Deputy Director of Inpatient Services, said: "It was just wonderful to see Matt and Brian take time out to come and visit some of our patients here.

"They left everyone with a huge smile on their face, especially the more avid football supporters!

"We’d like to say a big thank you to Colchester United for their continued support for what we do."

He said: "

U's defender Matt made his first visit to the Hospice on Tuesday and he was suitably impressed with how the staff go about their job in the local facility.
It was great to be able to meet the patients and also to take a closer look at the work that goes on at the Hospice. "I have read so much about the Hospice in the paper, so it was fantastic to be able to see this service for myself. We look forward to going back again in the future."
