A Truly Great Friend

25 October 2012

Former Players' Association tribute to Peter Wright.

U’s legend Peter Wright was a man who was 'so proud' of Colchester United, throughout his whole life.

That's according to John Schultz, the secretary of the Former Players Association, following the sad news of Peter's passing on Wednesday.

John said: "Our thoughts are with Peter's wife Lindsay and all his family and friends at this sad time. Peter was positive about his illness until the last few weeks when he became so weak but had stated openly that he had had a wonderful life with his family, friends, sport, work, football and of course his beloved Colchester United.

"When he was first taken ill, he has said that if he died the next day he could not complain because of the wonderful life he had had till then.

"Peter was so proud of his club and, after asking me about five years ago to work with him on the Colchester United Former Players Association, it was formed with great success in the subsequent years.

"His enthusiasm never waned and even in the last few months he has been chasing me to ensure that all was in order for upcoming Theatre trips to London and for next year's Dinner.

"He was always supportive to Robbie Cowling and never stopped thanking him for his support to the Association and would take every opportunity to 'Fly the Flag' for all that is good about Colchester United."

Whilst his illness precluded him from attending recent matches, Peter has kept a close eye on the team's fantastic progress up the League One table and the fine results picked up under the new management team.

John added: "The appointment of Joe Dunne and Mark Kinsella went down so well with him. The fact that both of them wear the 'Hall of Fame' Legends tie to attend matches made him extremely proud and that in his words 'Two of our Legends are leading the football management of the club.'

"He even insisted that the Association sponsored part of Joe's kit and of course he was so pleased to hear the results.

"Again on behalf of the Association, the Former Players, Friends of the Association and all it stands for we pass on our condolences and best wishes to Lindsay and all the family.

"We have all lost someone very special all and a truly great friend. God Bless you Peter."
