U's collaborate with firstsite.
In collaboration with Colchester United FC and Colchester United Community Sports Trust, firstsite Associate Artists Lawrence Bradby and Jevan Watkins Jones are making connections between football and drawing as part of The Big Draw this month.
Jevan Watkins Jones said: "We are making a connection between movement on a football pitch and marks on a page. We are asking fans to commit to paper the movements and connections that they are making in their heads anyway."
In preparation for the culmination of this project on 20th October, this Saturday 13th October at the Stevenage Town game, Lawrence, Jevan and the firstsite team will be in the East Stand concourses with giant blackboards where fans in that stand can draw a move from the first half.
Lawrence Bradby said: "We’ve been working with Colchester United first and youth team players, Colchester United Community Sports Trust and Tendring Technology College students and parents to gather drawings of football moves.
"We are going to work with fans for the first time on 13 October by encouraging them to draw during half time."
On Saturday 20th October, firstsite will be at Weston Homes Community Stadium again for Colchester United v Carlisle United.
There will be a special blank sheet in the programme for fans to draw a game move onto. Lawrence and Jevan will also be live drawing on the big screen, and at the end of the game, the fans drawings will be collected for display.
Lindsay Evans, Marketing and Press Co-ordinator said: "It’s been a fabulous collaboration with the club and trust and we’ve been really impressed by how the first and youth team players have got involved with our drawing activities. We’re looking forward to seeing the fans drawings now!"
Filmmakers Kinura will also document the preparation for the project, drawing in action on 20 October and drawing on the big screen at the stadium. This film will also be shown over this weekend. Drop in, it's free!
From Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th December the resulting drawings will be on display at firstsite.
