Sears scores on U's return

Freddie Sears has made a goalscoring return to action.

The U's forward completed an hour of the game at Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday and suffered no ill effects.

He has been out of action for over five weeks, having injured his knee in the win at Stevenage on the first weekend of March.

And Karl Duguid, who was in charge of the U's squad that made the short trip to south Essex, was pleased with Sears' contribution.

"Freddie got through the hour we had planned for him and looked very sharp. He got himself into good positions and had a good couple of chances.

"Forwards always like to score goals and Freddie managed to do that, so I'm sure he will eager to be involved in the first team between now and the end of the season."

Another option for manager Joe Dunne in the final four matches is George Porter, who also played against the Daggers.

Duguid said of Porter: "George has missed the last three matches so just needed a bit of game time to keep him sharp. He did well in his seventy minute stint and should be fighting to be involved at Notts County."
