U's Flash: Clifford Stays

12 February 2013

Midfielder extends loan until end of season.

Colchester United are delighted to confirm that midfielder Billy Clifford will be staying with the U's until the end of the season.

Billy has made a big impression during his spell with the U's so far, his first spell away from parent club Chelsea.

And the ball-playing midfielder is relishing his time in north Essex, with the expectation of plenty more to come in the coming weeks.

"It has been a really good experience so far. The gaffer has been fantastic to me and the players have as well, so I'm glad that I took the chance to come here.

He told the official website on Tuesday afternoon: "I've spoken to the gaffer here and to people at Chelsea and they've been really happy with how I've been doing. The Chelsea youth team product believe he's up and running now and can't wait to get out on the pitch again. He added: "

Billy has now made five appearances for the U's, four of which alongside the undoubted experience of David Wright as Joe Dunne's men have begun to pick up points in the last few weeks.

"This has definitely been the right move for me, and it has been a chance to experience life away from Chelsea, to play games and experience living with another team mate and I think I've coped well so far."
"Physically, I feel better than I have been before and I can't wait to attack the rest of the games in front of us.

I feel that I'm up to full speed and that Preston was my best games so far.

"The gaffer brought in myself, Sam Walker and David Wright, and we've begun to turn things around and things are looking encouraging for the rest of the season."

"When I first came, I was surprised to see the position we were in.
