My Six Pack

2 July 2013

Eddie the Eagle next up in the hot seat.

Season Ticket sales have continued to be positive, with fans itching to get started with the 2013/14 season under boss Joe Dunne.

About 80% of current sales have been full Season Tickets but, with the fixture list now out, we're starting to see fans getting on board with their Six and Twelve Game packs.

Don't forget, our Six and Twelve Game packs allow you to select the matches that suit you during the season, whilst also getting the benefits of being a Season Ticket holder.

With the new season drawing closer, we've been asking the players and staff at Colchester United to select their own Six Game Packs and next up is U's fluffy mascot Eddie the Eagle!

My Six Pack: Eddie the Eagle

Swindon Town – November 16th – Rockin Robin
I am sure Swindon Town will once again be a strong force in the coming season and we have had some great matches with them over the last few years. The main reason I have chosen this match to be in my six pack selection is due to “Rockin Robin”. Mr Robin is a good friend of mine (apart from when we play each other) and he more often than not pops up to games we have here to support his team, so therefore the more U’s fans we can get to this one and the more unwelcome we can make him feel, the better!

Notts County – December 14th – The Magpies
The Magpies come to town just before Christmas, so this game is positioned well for you to tell the family you are off Christmas shopping and then actually coming along to the U’s! I think that Notts County have been fairly strong the last couple of seasons but I have a feeling they won’t be able to get near us this year with the quality we have brought in and especially if that continues so we could be in for a very entertaining match!

Preston North End – 22nd February – Deepdale Duck
Preston have been a unpredictable team other the past few years, after two successive opening day visits to them, it will make a nice change for a shorter trip this season with the game against Gillingham. Another friend of mine Deepdale Duck invited me along a few seasons ago when they managed to scrape past us in the FA Cup (I forget the score) so I want this season to be the year that we get one over on them and avenge that horrible defeat!

Bradford City – 11th March – The Bantams
Bradford were most people’s second team last season with their incredible cup run and league success at Wembley, The Bantams are managed by one of our heros Phil Parkinson who I am sure will receive a great reception. I am sure Bradford will look to carry on from where they left off last year and come March this could be a massive game for both teams. Overall a big match full of reasons to come down and support the U’s.

Bristol City - 22nd March – The Robins
My next choice of the six pack includes The Robins, Bristol City. A team who are already improving their squad well over pre-season and I am sure they will want to shoot straight back up into The Championship. It’s been a few years since we played them and this is their first visit to the WHCS, so let’s get along to this one and show them how much a fortress this place can be! Perhaps the day we get promoted if all is going to plan by the end of March!

Oldham Athletic -  19th April – Chaddy the Owl
My final choice for my six game pack is Oldham Athletic, a team who a lot like Bradford City had a good run in the cups managing to knock out high flyers Liverpool. A team who managed to steer themselves away from relegation (as did we, just!) and will be striving  for a more positive season this year and with the timing of the game it could be a massive day for both teams at the right end of the table.

As you can probably tell there is a slightly feathered link between my six pack fixtures. Of course, an eagle is top of the food chain when it comes to birds so I can’t see any reason why we wouldn’t achieve maximum points from all six games!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to seeing you all on my travels or here on the 16th July for our friendly vs West Ham United.

Up the U’s,
Eddie!
