U's Grab Histon Win

25 July 2013

Positive display as pre-season nears conclusion.

The U's put in a dominant display on Wednesday night to beat Histon 1-0 in their latest pre-season friendly.

Following on from the game against Ipswich 24 hours before, the U's took a full strength squad to Cambridgeshire as boss Joe Dunne continues to push his players to be as fit as possible ahead of the start of the new season.

The match saw Brian Wilson and Craig Eastmond get minutes under their belt as the U's team starts to take shape with the opening game against Gillingham drawing ever closer.

It was David Wright who grabbed the only goal of the game, just after half time.

The U's had created plenty of chances in the first period, but it was the experienced midfielder's cool finish just after half time that separated the two teams by the final whistle.

Craig Eastmond might have extended the advantage when his shot from ten yards was deflected just past the post, whilst Mark Cousins pulled off a great reaction save not long afterwards to ensure that the U's lead was preserved.

They could have extended their advantage but had to make do with just the one goal, as they put another win on the board in a positive pre-season so far.

Next up is Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday, whilst the U21s travel to Needham Market on the same day.
