Defensive cover still needed
Joe had hoped to add to his squad by the time the first pre-season games came around but has missed out on two targets.The U's search for defensive cover will have to continue, as boss Joe Dunne looks to bolster the left back berth.
He told the official website: "The search goes on. I had two players in mind that I wanted here on loan from Premier League clubs but have heard today that we have missed out on them."
"One club wants the player to be a part of their first team squad and the other player's agent informed me that they were looking to play him in the Championship this season."
Dunne was philosophical about the setback though, saying: "It's a bit disappointing but football is like this and we'll move onto other targets that we feel will improve the squad." The U's begin their pre-season fixtures on Wednesday evening, with a trip to Scraley Road to take on Heybridge Swifts.
