Dinner Raises Thousands

5 June 2013

Stadium assists fundraising efforts.

Local teenager Tom Bowdidge’s fundraising efforts for Teenage Cancer Trust took another big step forward earlier this year, as a dinner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium helped raise over £20,000 for the charity.

Tom was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer last year but has fought his battle whilst opting to raise significant sums of money over the past twelve months.

The Colchester United supporting teenager, whose father Richard also attends games at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, has now raised over £100,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust and is now acting as one of the charity’s ambassadors.

The dinner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium was one of a host of charity events to be held at the home of Colchester United in the past year and saw TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil and comedian Ian Richards help make the night a significant success.

U’s Commercial Consultant John Schultz, who helped to organise the night said: "Alan and Ian were absolutely brilliant and helped the night to be the great success it was, as over 220 people turned up at the stadium.

"But star of the night was Tom himself giving a speech about what had happened to him, his family and telling of the incredible work that Teenage Cancer Trust has done to support everyone."

The room was captivated and the night ended up being a massive success, with £20,975 the final fundraising total - a truly amazing amount.

For Tom, his fundraising efforts will continue and he will be going to Milan next month for specialist surgery.

John added: “His family will be with him and I am sure all who know him will be wishing him well and look forward to seeing back in West Bergholt after the surgery.”
