Mason Keen To Impress

Full back grabs U's chance

Having been released by MK Dons, the youngster wants to make the most of his chance in north Essex.

Mason Spence is eager to prove himself at the U's.

"It's a chance for me to show everyone what I can do and a chance to maybe prove people wrong."

"It's a cliche but I'm over the moon to be signing for Colchester United and is a great opportunity for me to develop my game further and continue my career."

The eighteen year old full back came to the U's for the final few weeks of the season and told us that he really enjoyed it.

"I trained with the lads, played three matches and was made to feel very welcome and part of the Colchester United family.

"I'll be moving down to Colchester so it will be a completely fresh start for me and I'll be able to focus fully on my football."

U's boss Joe Dunne has made no secret of the fact that he likes his full backs to attack as well as defend and Mason feels he can fit that remit.

"I played in Sunday League football as a centre forward and have kept that attacking mentality since being converted to a full back.

"It's the way I've been taught all through my time at MK Dons and it's great that the manager here wants me to continue doing it.

"There is two sides to it though, but I'm sure that I've got the level of fitness required to get up to join the attack and back to do my defensive work."
