U's Extend Schools Links

4 June 2013

New Schools & Sports programme underway.

Schools across the local area will get to work even more closely with Colchester United in the coming years, as the new look Football in the Community programme launches a great new look School & Sports programme.

Following its launch in April, the U’s community scheme has already delivered some great courses in over 40 schools across Colchester and North East Essex.

And those relationships will be strengthened in the future as the League One club expands its connections with children of school age from right across the local area.

Corin Haines, Community Sports Participation Manager said: “Schools have successfully used this service to help improve sports provision and PE in line with primary school sports funding.

“The School Sport Programme also promotes physical development within sessions and enhances provision for physical development as advocated in Ofsted Framework.

“The new look Football in The Community programme will see Colchester United working closer than ever with schools of all sizes, giving them access to the U’s resources and their players.

“We believe this gives our community and schools programmes something special and unique and we are excited about helping working with pupils and their families to build stronger links with their local side.”

The School & Sports Programme will:-

• Promote learning across the National Curriculum -  in particular moral, social, cultural, spiritual development, Health Awareness and Key Skills  through PE and Sport
• Ensure a child-centred philosophy adopting the outcomes of: being healthy, staying safe, enjoy and achieve through learning
• Improve the health and well being of children and young people
• Tackle obesity
• Personalise learning
• Assist teachers with defining and improving PE attainment levels
