Defender turns down deal."It is the progress of players like John that we want to see more of at the club and I wish him all the best for the future."
"He has been with the club a long time and we've seen him progress through the youth system, into the reserves and then into the first team.
Praising White, who made over 250 appearances in nine seasons, Dunne continued: "John has been a fantastic servant for the club and an extremely versatile member of the squad.
"We fully understand that he would now like to see what else is out there for him and we wish him all the best wherever he plays."
"It was a contract that would have seen his salary reduced but that is something that is happening pretty much across the board and we had hoped it would be enough for him to stay.
"His representatives contacted me to say that he wouldn't be signing the contract we offered.
He told the official website: "John White has decided not to continue with us.
U's boss Joe Dunne confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon.
White has turned down the new contract he was offered in May, and will look to further his career elsewhere.
The U's and John White have parted company, ending a stay of over a decade with the club.
