Midfielder heads to Blue Square Premier high flyers.
Colchester United midfielder Alex Gilbey is heading out on his first loan spell - after the U's agreed to loan the teenager to Blue Square Premier high-flyers Newport County until the end of the season.
Alex, who was given his first professional contract aged 17 last summer, has made six appearances for the U's first team this season.
The 18-year-old has also been a regular in the U's U21s set-up, missing only two games for Richard Hall's side, and is set to join Newport ahead of their game against Gateshead on Thursday night.
That match, to be played at Boston United's stadium due to the problems that Gateshead have had with their home pitch, is one of ten potential fixtures that Alex could play for County.
They currently sit in the play-off spots in the Blue Square Premier, with Justin Edinburgh's men looking to finish a positive season off on a high.
