Fewer Miles To Travel

20 May 2013

Shorter away days for U's next season.

The battles for promotion and relegation in League One have been completed for another season - and there'll be fewer miles on the road for Joe Dunne's players next season.

With local trips to Gillingham and Peterborough United coming into the division and longer trips to Bury and Hartlepool United leaving League One, the U's will spend around 500 miles fewer on the road in 2013/14.

The ins and outs are as follows, with the mileage shown being the round trips from the Weston Homes Community Stadium to the opposition's stadium (as per the AA's Route Planner).

IN
Bradford City - 430 miles
Bristol City - 390 miles
Gillingham - 140 miles
Peterborough United - 192 miles
Port Vale - 416 miles
Rotherham United - 358 miles
Wolverhampton Wanderers - 362 miles
Total: 2,288 miles

OUT
Bournemouth - 364 miles
Bury - 530 miles
Doncaster Rovers - 348 miles
Hartlepool United - 532 miles
Portsmouth - 292 miles
Scunthorpe United - 376 miles
Yeovil Town - 416 miles
Total: 2,858 miles

That's a saving of 570 miles - at an average of 60 miles an hour, that's an extra 9 and a half hours you'll have to prepare yourself for a decent away day!

The departures and arrivals into the division now mean that the top three longest journeys this coming season will be Carlisle United, Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers, with Leyton Orient, Stevenage and Gillingham the three closest trips.

The total mileage over the season is 8,166.

Of course, all of those teams will need to visit the Weston Homes Community Stadium and you can still get your Season Tickets! To find out more about the prices on offer, click HERE.
