Heath Ends U's Stay

3 May 2013

No new deal for U's defender.

Matt Heath and the U's have parted company, bringing to the end a five year association with the club. The central defender's current contract runs out this summer and Joe Dunne has decided not to extend it.
It didn't sound like an easy decision for the U's boss though, who praised Heath on Friday afternoon as he announced the news.

He told the club website: "It is never easy to tell a player that he isn't being kept on but it becomes much more difficult when you're telling a player with the attitude that Matt has.

"He is a top professional, both in his attitude and his application, as well as being a fantastic person to have in the changing room."
Showing that professionalism, Heath spoke to the official website just after his meeting with Dunne.

He said: "Of course I'm disappointed, but it obviously didn't come as a bolt out of the blue because I hadn't been playing.

"I've really enjoyed my time at the club, I've met some great people and would like to thank everyone, players, staff and supporters, who have helped and supported me during my time at Colchester United.

"These things happen to players all the time and I'm looking forward to my next challenge, whatever and wherever it might be."
