Midfielder helps Newport into the league.
There was Wembley joy for U's midfielder Alex Gilbey on Sunday, as he helped Newport County into the Football League in the Play-Off Final.Alex started and finished the game and played a big part in the game as the Exiles returned to the league after a lengthy absence.
He put in a performance that belied his youthful stature, man marking Wrexham captain Dean Keates and providing a driving influence through midfield as two late goals ensured a victory for Newport.
He will return to the U's for the start of next season and hope that he did enough to impress the watching Joe Dunne, who was in the crowd at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Alex has enjoyed a memorable loan spell with County during his time at the club and will gain much experience from the time he has spent there.
Wrexham had a strong spell during the second half, but Newport stayed strong before grabbing the goals that got them promotion.
On more than one occasion, he burst from his advanced midfield role to strike in shots that were blocked at source, but continued to try and get on the ball when he could during the afternoon.
