A Great Value Day Out

12 September 2013

New look prices bearing dividends.

Did you know you could have a day out at Colchester United for as little as £19?

The BBC's Price of Football survey has sparked plenty of discussion around the country as fans consider how much it costs them to take in a match of football with their local team.

In the summer of 2013, not only did the U's reduce their match ticket prices by offering some fantastic Early Bird offers, but they also reduced Season Ticket prices AND the cost of food or drink.

And that means that an adult, by buying in the Early Bird best price period for match tickets, you could get your seat, a cuppa and your match programme for only £19.

Not only are Season Ticket sales up 8% compared to last season, it's begun to bear dividends on a matchday, too, with attendances up nearly 12% compared to last season's average of just over 3,500.

With anticipated crowds across the next three games looking set to lift that average, it's been a promising start to the season with some great backing from our loyal supporters.

"We have tried something new with the progressive pricing on offer for games this season," U's General Manager Tim Waddington said.

"We wanted to offer fans the opportunity or the choice to get themselves a cheap matchday ticket - our best since 2005 - and, even within the first three games, we're starting to see more and more take advantage of what's on offer.

"The reduction of prices for the food and drink has also been warmly received. What's more, the ability to work with local suppliers for the best in food and drink options has really gone down well, given the feedback that we've received.

"We have also worked exceptionally hard on improving the general match experience for fans of all ages, from families through to groups of friends, so we believe that has also played its part in the rise in crowds so far. "

The new pricing, along with some of the great football that Joe Dunne's team have been playing, we've seen many fans returning to the fold this season.
