Cup defeat for the U's.

A goal laden first half saw the U's beaten in the U21 Premier League Cup on Thursday afternoon.

A young U's side ran their opponents close at Peterborough United, but they were ventually defeated by a 3-2 scoreline.


The U's started brightly, but found themselves one behind after just five minutes when Boro built an attack from a cleared U's free kick, with McDonald nodding home with a header.

Ladapo made it 2-1 for the U's with another good finish that gave the keeper no chance, before Peter Grant made it 2-2 with a thumping header from a Posh corner.

But the U's were not rattled and were level a further five minutes later. A powerful shot from Freddie Ladapo got the U's on level terms after just ten minutes in a lively start to the game.

However, they did get their noses in front just before the break as Brown broke away and set up Gordon, who made it 3-2.

The game settled down and both teams were trying to play on a decent pitch and, as they traded chances, the Posh tried several shots from distance without truly troubling Phillips. xquisite ball by Szmodics released Simmons, but the keeper blocked his shot. Then Ladapo shot over from free kick as U's tried unsuccessfully to force equaliser before half time.

Early in the second period, they went close again as a free kick to the U's was taken by Sanderson, who pulled a great save from Boro keeper Lynch.
Ladapo was then put in by Curtis but his shot was again blocked, falling to Curtis who shot powerfully over.

Teenager Tariq Issa twice caused havoc with his skill down the right as the U's begin to build up the pressure, but Posh remained a threat and 

A seven pass build up then saw Melaugh deliver the best cross of the afternoon but Boro escaped with a corner.

Time was beginning to run out and then Phillips again saved brilliantly at full stretch from the ever dangerous Shaq McDonald, but Posh had done enough to win the game.
