U's Flash: Monakana Signs

12 September 2013

Winger joins the U's on loan.

Colchester United are pleased to confirm the arrival of Jeffrey Monakana on a month's loan from Preston North End.

The 19-year-old, formerly of Arsenal, caught manager Joe Dunne's eye in his performances against the U's last season, where played 47 times for the Lancashire club.

Jeffrey will initially be with the U's up to and including the game v Walsall on October 12th - taking in four fixtures.

"We need to be attacking the box a bit more and I know he can do that. He wants to carry the ball and take people on one v one, so we're looking forward to working with him in the next few weeks."

"Jeffrey is an attack minded player, who wants to attack the box and is very much one who fits into our style of play. He's not afraid to cut inside and shoot from distance and I think we've been lacking that.

"He's been up north, playing for a big club, but we've brought him back down south again. He's a London boy who knows some of the lads here and there are many things that work in our favour when it comes to bringing him into the club.

"He's played behind closed doors matches for them, so he's fit and ready to go for us.

Boss Joe Dunne told the official website: "He's straight into the squad. We've monitored him and seen he hasn't been in their set-up so far this season.

Injury in pre-season and North End's bright start to the season has meant he has had to wait for first team football this time around, and the attack minded player was snapped up by Joe following injuries to our own players in that part of the squad.
