Youngster gets to meet players before first game.
Five-year-old Ashton Rees was the lucky winner of the U’s ‘Family Day’ Golden Ticket earlier this year - and got to enjoy a day to remember ahead of the weekend opener against Oldham Athletic.
During our successful Family Day at a home game against Coventry in March, Ashton receievd a prize of being able to visit to Colchester United's very own training ground at Florence Park.
Today Ashton and his dad Jason visited the grounds for their special tour to see what really happens behind the scenes. Ashton was ecstatic about the visit and showed up kitted out in his U’s strip.
The young U’s supporter got to watch the team ending their training session before going on a full tour of the facilities.
Firstly he went to the main players changing rooms, where he met and got photographs with players, followed by a trip to the gym to watch the boys work up a sweat!
He also got to see where the players get treated when they are injured, where important meetings take place and even where the youth players go to study and improve their education.
On his journey, Ashton bumped into team manager, Joe Dunne, who presented him with a very special present of a first team match ball!
He met more U's players in the dining area but was delighted to meet his favourite player, goalkeeper Sam Walker. Sam spent time talking to Ashton and as if his day couldn’t get any better, Sam gave little Ashton his gloves he wore in pre-season.
Ashton’s day was topped off by getting autographs from all of the players and will be cheering on the U’s in their first match of the season on Saturday.
