U's Lodge Appeal

13 August 2014

Okuonghae red card challenged.

The U's have lodged an appeal against Magnus Okuonghae's red card at Charlton Athletic.

With the Capital One Cup tie goalless midway through the first half, the U's skipper was adjudged to have handled as he blocked an effort at goal.

A penalty was awarded to Charlton and Okuonghae received a straight red card for preventing a goalscoring opportunity.

Immediately after the game, boss Joe Dunne backed his captain and told the assembled press that the club would be appealing the decision.

That appeal has now been lodged and Dunne feels that the U's should have their centre half available again without a suspension.

"At the time, I thought it was his body and not his arm and Magnus' reaction suggested to me that it shouldn't have been a penalty," he told the official website.

"We've now looked at it in minute detail and feel that we have real grounds for the appeal so it has been lodged with the relevant authority."

The decision should come within the next couple of days and the hope is that Okuonghae will be available for the trip to Bristol City on Saturday.
