Late Decision Postpones Semi

18 February 2014

Aspect Arena unplayable

The U's will have to wait to play their Essex Senior Cup semi-final, after the match was called off fifteen minutes before kick-off.

The match referee Mr Bull deemed an area of the Aspect Arena pitch to be unsafe, and the decision was made to postpone the fixture.

U's boss Joe Dunne was understandably disappointed, having planned to use the game to give players like Freddie Sears, Gavin Massey and Jabo Ibehre amongst others the chance to get football under their belt.

He said: "We are very disappointed the game has been called off, particularly at this late stage.

"It's especially disappointing for Concord, who were looking forward to hosting a game of this nature. The area is only a small one and the rest of the pitch is playable, but it's certainly soft there.

"We tried to pay the competition and Concord as much respect as possible, but we will play another day now.

"It may be that, with our own first team fixture list coming up, that we have to play a younger side than we would have done tonight."

No new date has yet been confirmed for this game.
