Sammie Needs Your Vote!

13 February 2014

Midfielder nominated for goal of the month.

Six stunning goals from academy players make up the shortlist for League Football Education’s (LFE) Goal of the Month Award for January.

Ipswich Town’s Jack Willbye took the honours last month for his audacious 40-yard strike against Sunderland at Portman Road and there is plenty of talent on show this time around as six apprentices fight it out for the crown.

Once again, the U's have made the cut, with Sammie Szmodics' goal against Peterborough United the selected strike.

• DIEUDONNE LONGALONGA, PETERBOROUGH UTD v Colchester Utd
•   SAMMIE SZMODICS, Peterborough Utd v COLCHESTER UTD
• BRADLEY CARROLL, West Bromwich Albion v HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
• JACK STOBBS, Chelsea v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
• JAMIE HANSON, DERBY COUNTY v Stoke City
• GEORGE BYERS, WATFORD v Norwich City

LFE chief executive Alan Sykes said: “As ever there are some cracking goals and some really talented young players on show and the competition remains a great advert for youth development programmes at Football League clubs.”
