Defensive Resilience

2 January 2014

U's keep three clean sheets over Christmas.

Bouncing back from a heavy home defeat to Notts County just before the Christmas fixtures got under way, the U's kept three clean sheets in four in their festive matches to consolidate in 14th position at the start of the new year.

The U's will be hoping their defensive resilience will give them a platform to build from in 2014.

Those three clean sheets doubled the U's tally for the 2013/14 season, moving them onto six so far - one in every four fixtures.

Sam Walker was the star of the show with a fine performance against MK Dons but, in the festive period as a whole, the U's back line showed a steely determination to be hard to beat.

Only seven teams have kept more clean sheets than that in League One to date, with five of those seven currently occupying the automatic promotion and play-off spots.
