Ready For The Challenge

16 January 2014

Alex ready to kick on after signing deal.

"I know it will be hard to get back in with the way that the team have been playing recently, but I am more than ready for the challenge.

He told the official website: "I'm over the moon, and now I'm keen to get rolling and get back into the side. I've had a rest recently, but I feel like I'm ready to go.

Recent games have seen him step out of the side but, with his future assured, he's now ready to challenge those currently holding a shirt in the U's first team.

The teenager has enjoyed an excellent season with the U's so far, playing 25 games to establish himself in Joe Dunne's first team squad.

Homegrown U's midfielder Alex Gilbey is ready to kick on and get back into the side after signing a new two and a half year contract with the club on Thursday afternoon.

"I've certainly played more than I expected, so I'm really happy with how things are going and now I just want to play even more."

The team have picked up ten points in their last five games ahead of the long trip to Carlisle this weekend, but Alex feels that if the hard work continues, it can be the start of a further climb up the table.

"Things feel very different to this time last year and that shows that the players the manager has signed have really kicked the team on," Alex added.

"We can now show how good we can be and push on up the table."
