Open Day: The Best Moments

21 July 2014

Our favourite parts of this year's event.

The new home and away shirts were launched to much acclaim on the Open Day and hundreds were sold on the first day of sale. Season Ticket holders were able to make the most of the voucher in their Season Ticket pack, and got to meet chairman Robbie Cowling as they queued to pick up their 2014/15 information.1) The new shirts fly out!

! @ColU_Official Here's our top five - but feel free to tweet us your best parts of the day to

We were busy on the day, but managed to keep our eyes open for some great highlights.

There were plenty of highlights on a fantastic day as the weather stayed with us and people flocked from across the local area to visit us.
It was a memorable Open Day at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Sunday as we welcomed fans of all ages to the home of Colchester United.

2) Coaching the masses
The Football in the Community team got to take over the astroturf pitches after the players' training session on Sunday morning. The lads stuck around to join in with the young fans who were watching and then the FITC team managed the impressive feat of coaching 70 youngsters on one small pitch and managing to keep everything in order!

3) A photo for all
Sunday saw the players photographed for the annual squad shot and individual headshots. However, there was a bit of a surprise for the youngsters watching on as the photos were taken, as Joe invited them all onto the pitch to have their pictures taken with the squad. There was a bit of a bundle to get there!

4) Joe gets a surprise
Joe Dunne and defender Sean Clohessy were the featured men in our second Q&A of the day. Situated not too far from the popular BBQ, Joe's hunger was getting the better of him until, halfway through one answer, the U's catering staff presented him with a burger of his own!

5) Col U choir
We were lucky enough to meet many young fans on the day and a selected few were invited to participate in our special Col U choir, which saw them perform some of the players' songs - but with a twist. Stay tuned to find out more!

Thank you all again for coming, we hope you had a great day.
