Toughest Test For U's

22 July 2014

Southend hang on to beat U's.

The U's have had their toughest test in pre-season.

The hosts went ahead midway through the first half, thanks to a questionable penalty, and doubled the lead just after the break.

A behind closed doors friendly was played on Tuesday morning in the south of the county, with Southend United edging home 2-1.

"Both sides did things the right way and our thanks go to Phil Brown and Southend for looking after us, it was a great workout."

"We were tested defensively, as I expect us to be against Ipswich as well, and we got the players seventy minutes of work.

Dunne was pleased with the way the game went though, telling the official website: "We got exactly what we wanted out of the game, irrespective of the result.

Frankie Kent got one back for Joe Dunne's squad, but The Shrimpers held on to win.
