Elton John: FAQs

28 June 2014

The key things you need to know for Sunday.

It is now only days until the Weston Homes Community Stadium welcomes Elton John to Colchester for the biggest music event in Colchester for many years.

We have been dealing with many enquiries over the past few weeks and there are some common themes to what we’re being asked.

So, here are our Frequently Asked Questions to help you along the way this weekend, and to get you started, here's our updated stadium plan for the day.

TRAVEL

1) Where can I park for the show on Sunday?
There remains parking available at the Ardleigh Car Park that the club have organised, with a park and ride service. This costs £8 per car, which covers travel for all occupants of the vehicle to and from the stadium.

We are no longer posting out permits, so if you wish to purchase a permit, you will now need purchase on site on the day at Ardleigh (postcode CO7 7QR)

Please note that there is no parking available at the stadium and therefore no access to United Way without a parking permit on Sunday, and that access to all other car parks is via Junction 29 of the A12.

If you have not previously been to the area, please note that Axial Way is an Urban Clearway and there is no parking permitted on this road and you may receive a parking ticket should you park on Axial Way or any of the side roads.

2) Will you be running a shuttle bus service?
Yes, this will be running from Bruff Close, near Colchester train station, from 3.30pm on Sunday through to the start of the show. This costs £2 per person.

The buses will then resume after the show until 11.45pm. Buses for Bruff Close will depart from the Bus Loop at the Boxted Road end of the stadium site, adjacent to the main car park.

The shuttle bus service for the other car parks at Essex House and Ardleigh will be leaving from the South Stand car park (where you will also arrive when you first come from the car parks prior to the show) and these departure points will be clearly marked.

3) Where can I get dropped off?
Drop off points, including for taxis, will be at the Bus Loop at the Boxted Road end of United Way. There will be no taxi access via the Axial Way end of the stadium site on the day.

FACILITIES

4) Will there be cashpoints on site on the day?
There are no cashpoints at the stadium and the majority of catering facilities at the stadium do not take card payments. There will be the opportunity to pay by card for food/drink at Hot Shots cafe at the stadium, with snacks and drinks also on sale in the Club Shop.

However, it is therefore strongly advised that you come to the stadium with money to purchase food and drink or any merchandise that you wish to acquire.

5) What’s on offer for food and drink?
We will have multiple food and drink mobile units on site on the day, serving a range of food from hog roast, crepes, noodles, burgers and more. This is over and above the existing concourse catering that the stadium offers on other events.

These additional catering facilities will be located at the North West corner outside of the stadium and behind the East Stand at the stadium.

We will also have mobile drinks dispensers on site on the day.

6) What other additional facilities are there?
We have ordered in excess of over 50 additional toilets to support the existing ample washroom facilities at the stadium.

There will also be designated smoking areas around the stadium – please note that there is no smoking within the confines of the stadium, including those who have tickets on the pitch for the weekend.

THE SHOW

7) What time is the show likely to get started?
Doors open at 4pm for the show. It is expected that the support act, Bright Light Bright Light (more details HERE) will be on around 6.20pm and Elton on stage around 7.15pm.

It is requested as part of our agreement with the promoters that everyone should be in their seats by 6.30pm.

.The pre-show leaflet put together by the show's promoters can be read here and has further details on the day itself

The show is expected to finish just before 10pm and the bus services will resume at 9.45pm.
