Eastman At The Double

9 May 2014

Central defender picks up the two main awards; Alex Gilbey gets Young Player.

Central defender Tom Eastman's performances at the heart of the Colchester United defence this season has seen him land the two big awards at this year's End of Season Dinner.

Tom played 39 times for the U's in all competitions this year and is moving closer to 100 first team appearances for the club since his switch from Ipswich Town.

And the consistency of his performances this season saw him land the Official Player of the Year vote despite strong competition from a number of first team players.

Tom also gained the respect of his peers over the course of 2013/14, winning the Players' Player of the Year vote, just edging out Freddie Sears.

Meanwhile, the hard work of the U's Academy was acknowledged on the night as not only did the U18s double winners get their moment of acclaim from a packed room, but Academy product Alex Gilbey won this year's Young Player of the Year vote.

Freddie Sears' goal against Walsall - very much a team effort - was voted Colchester United Goal of the Year, whilst David Wright's unstinting support of the local community saw him land the club's Community Player of the Year award.

There was also silverware for Sam Walker, who after being ever present this season, picked up the two Colchester United Supporter Association awards and Jabo Ibehre, who got the Hospital Radio Colchester Player of the Year.

And the night wasn't just about the players - the Employees' Employee of the Year was Events Co-ordinator Nancy Hayes, and General Manager's Performer of the Year was Georgia Hunt, who many of you will have dealt with when buying tickets for events at the stadium!
