Shots Of The Season

31 May 2014

Club photographer Richard Blaxall chooses his best photos of 2013/14.

The 2013/14 season was another campaign fulls of thrills and spills, highs and lows and plenty of drama along the way.

Watching every game through the lens of his camera was club photographer Richard Blaxall.

Richard was with the U's both home and away through the last nine or ten months and has captured plenty of iconic photos to reflect on the emotions involved.

Over the next few weeks, he'll be choosing his favourite fifteen photos and telling us why he particularly liked them. Today he picks one featuring our popular loanee Luke Garbutt.

There are certain players that are great to photograph. When Luke Garbutt was on the ball he always looked the part and it was difficult not to get a decent photograph of him. I remember last season, I could not get a photograph of Billy Clifford without his tongue hanging out.

There are other players who's concentration face never changes from game to game. Tom Eastman always has his mouth wide open when passing and Alex Gilbey always has both eyes wide open and focussed when running with the ball.
I always enjoy capturing a photograph with two players making a challenge with all eyes on the ball and no feet on the ground. It only happens within a split of a second, so to find out you have caught it and more importantly it is tack sharp, is great news.

This photo will be my favourite of Luke Garbutt. A player we all hope establishes himself at Everton and on the international stage and we can look back and say, we had him.
