Midnight Walk Is Back!

5 November 2014

U's help to launch 2015 event.

Once upon a time hundreds of wannabe princesses, dressed in trainers and tiaras, gathered together to walk through the night in aid of their favourite local charity…

Registration for St Helena Hospice’s 2015 Midnight Walk is opening sooner than usual, and early birds will receive a £5 discount.

The seventh annual walk sees ladies being encouraged to take up the dress code of trainers and tiaras, and the event will take place earlier than usual in the year on 23rd May.

A popular annual event on the St Helena Hospice calendar, the ladies-only sponsored walk will begin and end at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium and cover approximately 7 miles.

Marking the hospice’s 30th anniversary, Midnight Walk 2015 is bigger and better than ever with some significant changes following a survey of participants in 2014.

Many mothers walking in aid of the charity wanted to involve their daughters, so the minimum age has been reduced to 11 years (from 14 years) and the new start time of 10.30pm makes it more manageable for younger people as well as allowing those ladies that wish to carry on their night out to do so!

Fliss Strode, events manager at St Helena Hospice said: "Don’t stay in, register for what we think is the best girls' night in town!  It really is a great night out – the atmosphere is amazing. We want everyone to feel, and dress, like a princess for the night so dust off your trainers and tiaras and join the party!"

Early bird registration for the walk is just £10 per person between 3rd November 2014 and 10am on 2nd Feburary and each lady will receive an event pack containing helpful information.

From 10am on 2nd February until 22nd May 2015, the registration fee will be £15. On the night each participant will receive hot drinks, a well-deserved doughnut and medal at the finish line.

Early bird registration can be made online at sthelenahospice.org.uk/midnight15 or by phoning the St Helena Hospice Fundraising Office on 01206 791740.

After 2nd February registration forms will be available at any hospice shop or site in Colchester and Clacton. Final registration closes at noon on Friday 22nd May or when 2,000 walkers have registered, whichever comes first.
St Helena Hospice is also looking for volunteers to help on the night; anyone interested should email midnightwalk@sthelenahospice.org.uk or call the events and community team on 01206 791740.
