U's owner voted as best in division by peers.

Colchester United executive chairman Robbie Cowling has been voted the best in the division by his peers, ahead of a leading sports award ceremony in London on Thursday evening.

Robbie has been voted as the fcbusiness League One CEO of the Year 2014 by fellow chairmen and chief executives, acknowledging his efforts both for the U's and within the game as a whole.

Robbie has helped establish the U's as one of the most forward thinking clubs in the division and, as well as working to develop the club since their move to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, he has invested time and money into safeguarding the future of the U's.

This has been particularly the case with the ongoing work at Florence Park and the U's attaining Category Two status this season, as the club look to bring through homegrown players including those from the town and local area.

Derby Chief Executive Sam Rush won the overall award at a gala dinner in London on Thursday, having also scooped the Championship accolade.
