Striker reaches double figures with Gosport brace.

Colchester United striker Freddie Sears reached double figures for the season with his brace against Gosport in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The lively forward has enjoyed his most productive season in U's colours yet and moved to eleven in nineteen games with his penalty and late goal against the non-league side.

He became the 24th U's player to reach double figures within twenty games, and the first since Chris Iwelumo in the 2005/6 promotion season, with Chris getting his 10th goal in the 20th game.

As one of the U's leading all time goalscorers, it is perhaps no surprise that Martyn King wasted no time in reaching double figures in his time with the U's.

In five successive seasons between 1959 and 1964, Martyn hit ten goals in less than twenty games.

His partnership with Bobby Hunt saw them both manage it in 1961/62 and 1962/63, whilst the last time two players managed it in the same season was 1991/92 as Roy McDonough and Steve McGavin grabbed the goals on the way to the U's completing the non-league double.

Here's the list of U's players to have achieved ten or more goals in double quick time:-
