U21s Grab First Win

9 September 2014

U's come from behind to win.

Colchester United U21s grabbed their first win of the season on Monday night, as they came from behind to beat Crewe Alexandra. The home side took the lead on 25 minutes, as George Cooper popped up at the far post to put John Johnston's cross past James Bransgrove in the U's goal.

It was the midfield who grabbed the goals, with Craig Eastmond getting one and Byron Lawrence two to pick up the win.

They had previously lost one and drawn one, but ensured they earned a useful three points when they won 3-1 at the Alexandra Stadium.

The Alex had had further chances to extend their advantage before the U's drew level before half time.

It was a defensive mix up from the home side, as goalkeeper Shearer and midfielder Jones contrived to lose the ball to Craig Eastmond, who slotted the ball through the keeper's legs.

In the second half, the U's got their noses in front as new boy Byron Lawrence got his first goal in Colchester colours.

He struck a shot from just outside the box that took a deflection on its path to goal to beat Shearer in the Crewe goal.

And the former Ipswich midfielder did not have to wait long for his second Colchester goal.

Again he struck from outside of the area and gave Shearer no chance as the U's extended their advantage to two.

After a draw against Sheffield United and a defeat to Nottingham Forest, this was an encouraging result for the U's and gets their season off to a solid start.
