Be On The Front Foot

10 April 2015

Boss wants team to continue recent momentum.

"We have always believed in ourselves and the last four performances have given us every chance in the coming weeks," he said ahead of Saturday's match.

And Tony wants his side to take the confidence gained with those results into the latest away day.

The U's go to the Ricoh Arena with ten points in their last twelve games, a run which has narrowed the gap to safety from six points to just two ahead of the weekend fixtures.

Colchester United boss Tony Humes wants his side to remain on the front foot as they look to extend their recent good form at Coventry City on Saturday.

"Nothing has changed in how we've approached games, but we've built on the same principles and we've now got more belief into the players. Now we've got to make sure we keep it there.

"We want the players to play in the right way and they're doing that for us at the moment."

The two Easter wins saw the U's overcome different challenges - a Port Vale fightback and a comeback of their own after trailing against Barnsley.

And Tony believes that will stand the U's in good stead: "'The players have shown good character. If you go behind in games, you have to make sure that you stay in it.

"Equally, we've known all season the importance of scoring the first goal and we've tended to go on and win when we have managed that."

The U's now face three games in a week, starting with two away days and ending with a game at home against Scunthorpe, who currently sit three points above the U's.

Tony reflected: "It's great we are in this position, it could easily have been that we were cut adrift had we not had this recent run.

"We've reeled a few in and they're on the back foot, but hopefully we can be on the front foot again on Saturday and continue the momentum."
