U's hoping to land a top flight side.
Colchester United's players and supporters will be watching the Emirates FA Cup Third Round draw with interest on Monday night, as the top flight sides join this year's competition.
The U's have beaten two non-league opponents to reach this stage of the cup, and will hope that their reward is a game against one of the Premier League sides.
Should Wayne Brown's men be paired with a top flight side at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, it will be the first time since 1979 that a team from the top level of the English game has visited in the FA Cup.
That was when Manchester United came to Layer Road in the Fifth Round, with a late Jimmy Greenhoff goal separating the two sides.
The last time the U's faced a top flight team in the Third Round at home was even further back, in 1968 against West Brom.
The U's have of course played Premier League teams in the FA Cup more recently, with Wimbledon, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea all hosting the U's in the historic competition in the last fifteen years.
