3G surface launched at Shrub End.
Colchester United's Football in the Community programme has a brand new 3G pitch on offer for teams and groups from around the area to take advantage of, with the new surface being opened to the public this week. The Artificial Turf Pitch has been upgraded with a brand new 3G surface installed to meet the FA Standard, so that it can be used for competitive football matches as well as for coaching and informal football.
Colchester United’s community scheme will use the centre to continue their work with schools, sports and community groups.
It opens their community sports offering to a wider range of people in the borough.
The U’s Development Centre and Academy teams will also be given coaching time at Shrub End, just a stone's throw from Colchester United’s old home at Layer Road.
Corin Haines, Community Manager, said: "We are delighted to be able to make use of this fantastic surface.
"It will allow us to deliver our top quality coaching on a top quality surface and enhances our offer to groups and teams from Colchester and the area both during the week and at weekends."
Cllr Annie Feltham, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Leisure, said: "Colchester Borough Council and Colchester United Football in the Community have a common goal: to provide sporting facilities and opportunities for all.
"I'm excited by the partnership and extremely pleased to see the new pitch already being used by schools and community groups. We've brought the facilities up to a high standard to ensure their continued use for years to come."
